LOOK: President Duterte and Donald Trump see eye-to-eye on certain issues

United States of America President Donald Trump attended last November 13, a bilateral meeting with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. Such occasion paved a way for the two countries to discuss certain political, economic, and other significant issues.

The main points of the discussion was shared by the newly appointed Presidential spokesman Harry Roque, in one of his recent press briefings. Among the issues discussed by the two leaders, according to Spox Roque, were concerns on fair trade, war on drugs, and terrorism.

"President Trump seemed to be appreciative of his efforts," Roque implied during the said presscon claiming Trump's appreciation of Duterte's campaign against illegal drugs.

The issue on fair trade moreover, is also discussed during the meeting. Trump claimed his intention to pursue "fair trade" and practice "reciprocity" in dealing with the region.

"The Philippine side expressed their hope that an FTA or free trade agreement must be concluded between the Philippines and the United States," Roque noted.

Roque, who is also present during the said bilateral meeting, stated that the US apparently in inclined to boost economic trade in the southeast asian region.

Trump also acknowledged the threats imposed by the ISIS terror group. Both the US and the Philippine President conformed to the idea that addressing terrorism and violent extremism should both be prioritized.

As how Spokesperson Roque sees it, the meeting between Trump and Duterte appeared to be "very warm, friendly, and candid". And despite the "sour points" induced by the inappalling statement of Trump's predecessor-former US President Barack Obama against the Duterte administration, the alliance between the two countries still seems to be strong.

With sincerity and appreciation, President Duterte during the meeting expressed his gratitude to the US leader for extending government assistance which helped the Philippines greatly in resolving the Marawi terror crisis.
