186 congressmen removed Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano as the leader of the House to replace Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.
It took place during the historic session at the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City this morning, organized by Velasco’s allies.
The session took place one day before the special session convened by President Rodrigo Duterte for the House to discuss and approve the 2021 proposed P4.5-trillion national budget. This also happened two days before the expected change of leadership in the House on October 14 based on the term-sharing agreement formed by President Rodrigo Duterte between Cayetano and Velasco.
This coup d’etat resumed after the House session was suspended early last week while in the middle of the debate on the proposed P4.5T 2021 national budget.
Meanwhile, Velasco was immediately sworn in as the new Speaker of the House to Captain Allan Franza of Barangay Matandang Balara, Quezon City. In his speech, he promised to fulfill the promises he made and also assured President Duterte that the P4.5-trillion proposed 2021 national budget will be approved immediately.
Velasco is very grateful for the support of President Duterte and his children, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte and Mayor Sara Duterte.
Velasco also expressed his gratitude to Sen. Bong Go as well as parties and blocs in the lower house of Congress. Eventually, he persuaded Cayetano’s camp to work with them to achieve a smooth transition
