Filipinos lead the world in using the internet and social media; 11 hours on the internet, 4 hours on socmed

Daily time spent using social mediaFilipinos have led countries around the world for a long time using social media and the internet.

In the Digital 2021 report of the socially-led creative agency “We Are Social” and social media management platform “Hootsuite” the Philippines is the global leader during the stay of social media use.

According to the study, Filipinos have an average of four hours and 15 minutes per day using social media.

It increased by 22 minutes compared to the Digital 2020 average of three hours and 53 minutes.

The global average for social media usage is two hours and 25 minutes.

The Philippines also leads the “daily time spent” in the use of the internet with an average of 10 hours and 56 minutes.

It increased compared to Digital 2020’s average of nine hours and 45 minutes.

The global average for internet usage is six hours and 54 minutes.

The report also stated that Philippine e-commerce adoption increased from 76 percent in Digital 2020 to 80.2 percent in Digital 2021.

This is the second consecutive year that the country’s data has risen.

It will be recalled that based on the Ookla Speedtest Global Index, the Philippines ranked 14 points in the mobile Internet connection speed.

The average mobile Internet speed of the Philippines in December 2020 was recorded at 22.50 megabits per second (Mbps) compared to 18.49 Mbps in November 2020.

It recorded a 4Mbps monthly increase for mobile internet from November to December after conducting 118 million tests in all regions, cities and municipalities in the country.

This is the highest monthly increase recorded since July 2016.

Meanwhile, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is scheduled to meet with Globe and Smart this month for the first bi-monthly meeting with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

It aims to ensure that telco plans for expansion and improvement by 2021 will be completed within the allotted time.

At the said meeting, telcos will present to the NTC the state of their network roll-outs and other problems.

The NTC will also determine how the government can help with the issues and challenges of “red tape.”

In the first two quarters of 2021, the NTC will advance the front-loaded implementation of roll-out plans of telcos.

Through bi-monthly meetings, the NTC will focus on advancing the network improvement of telcos and even improving internet speed in the country.
