The national and local elections will continue next year despite the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
In fact, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said there is already a tentative date for filing Certificates of Candidacy (COC) from October 1 to 8, 2021.
Comelec Chairman Sherif Abas said in a virtual press briefing this Thursday that the Comelec is mandated to hold elections in May 2022.
For now, the Comelec is said to be continuously preparing for the election and is also preparing the calendar of activities.
Elections will remain automated unless there is a new law in this regard.
Old vote counting machines (VCMs) from Smartmatic have May 2022 polls.
Registration for the upcoming elections will continue and end on September 30, 2021.
